East & West Parry Sound Victim Services (E&WPSVS)

Board of Directors

The board’s primary role is one of oversight, leadership, direction, policy setting and is the highest level of decision-making and authority for this not-for-profit organization.


  • Governing the organization

  • Directing the creation, administration and evaluation of major policies

  • Ensuring the effectiveness, credibility and viability of the organization

  • Understanding and demonstrating a commitment to the organization’s mission and programs

  • Contributing your skills, knowledge, influence, and other assets

  • Preparing for all meetings by reading agendas, minutes and other reports

  • Attending bi-monthly meetings, and actively participating in all meetings, by both listening and sharing your views

  • Participating in board development activities

  • Understanding and monitoring the organization’s financial affairs

  • Ensuring the organization is complying with all legal and regulatory requirements

  • Avoiding any potential conflicts of interest

  • Understanding and maintaining confidentiality

THE BOARD MEMBERSHIP will reflect the communities served by E&WPSVS. Membership may include, but are not limited to, representatives from the following stakeholder groups:

  • Representatives from the educational field, including secondary, vocational and post-secondary level

  • Emergency service providers, including police services, fire and emergency management

  • Complementary and co-operative service providers

  • Consumers of the service

  • Hospitals and mental health services

  • Community at large

  • Social service providers

  • Representative from the First Nation communities

  • Representatives from the Francophone community


  • Mature, responsible individual, nineteen (19) years of age and older

  • Good communication, interpersonal, and problem solving skills

  • Knowledge and understanding or demonstrated ability to understand victim issues

  • Basic knowledge of resources available in the service area

  • Willingness and ability to commit to three years of service

  • Satisfactory reference and criminal records check

  • Must not have experienced a traumatic event or received services from East & West Parry Sound Victim Services during the previous twelve (12) month period, nor have outstanding issues before the courts
